Location Review: Grand Turk

We have spent a total of about 16 hours in Grand Turk and can proudly say it is one of our very favorite beach locations.  If you are like me, I am a complete wimp when it comes to exploring in open waters. I know the chances of sharks and other unknowns are fairly low when you’re splashing around on shore, but I just can’t help but feel like sharks, jellyfish, stingrays, and all other scary ocean dwellers would love to feast on my fears!

I have found the ONE solution to my fear: Governor’s Beach, Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos 😉

Review of Grand Turk

Crystal clear (I mean more clear than a swimming pool) water, fine white powdery sand, and an insanely calm shoreline make this magical place so amazing. Here’s a pic of teeny tiny Greg exploring the waters 🙂 We have spent two days at Governor’s Beach. This is a hidden gem within walkable distance of the cruise ship port.  This place truly is exactly that-a hidden gem. We have seen a total of maybe five other people on this beach between the two days we have spent there.  It is a bit off of the main path, but the walk is well worth it.

On one corner of the beach is a boat, Mega One Triton that washed ashore during Hurricane Sandy in 2012.  Although this has created some legal problems in the area and can be possibly be seen as an eye sore, we really enjoy exploring the area right around the boat.  I found some awesome shells here as well as the most beautiful pieces of sea glass! The beach is approximately 3-4 football fields in length, so it is the perfect beach to stroll along.Review of Grand Turk

As for other attractions near the cruise ship port, well….I’m not sure there are any. The cruise port is right on a beach that offers free beach chairs, but we knew it would be instantly so overcrowded. If you are up for a walk, we highly recommended an off-the-beaten-path journey to Governer’s Beach!
