Okay, now we may proceed….
So you and your spouse want to travel the world. That is awesome! Hillary and I ditched Dallas and we have not looked back once! We write a lot about the beaches, food, and entertainment value of traveling. These things are amazing and to be quite frank, it is what most people want to read about.
However, the biggest benefit that we have gained from world travel is a closer relationship.
When you travel to a new place, the only person you can 100% trust is your spouse/travel partner. You do not know anybody and you have no idea what is going on around you. We have found that through putting ourselves in this exact situation over and over again, that we have learned to trust each other in these sometimes tense situations.
In addition to growing more trusting and close through necessity, pursuing your dreams tends to bring you closer. It is common in relationships for one or both people to resent one another for holding them back, or taking their life on a course they may not have wanted. If you are both chasing your dreams together, kindness, excitement, and love replaces resentment.
We have experienced some really cool things together. We have jumped off of waterfalls, sped down the highway to catch our cruise, swam with giant sea turtles, and so much more. Each of these things would be amazing by yourself, but being able to share them with somebody else is truly special. They are not merely items off of a bucket list. They are things that we did together. We will be able to laugh about all of the crazy things that happened to us for forever. If we were traveling alone (sorry solo travel bloggers), it just would not be nearly as neat to tell these stories to our friends or family. As much as you love reading our blog, and I’m sure you do, it is not nearly as exciting as actually doing the traveling. The best part about traveling is doing it together!
If you and your spouse want to travel, do not do it because of the beaches you will see. Do not do it because it sounds cool. And do not do it because it has been a lifelong dream. Do it because it will enable you to grow closer together. All of the other stuff that comes along with traveling is simply an added bonus
Pursue your dreams together and your relationship will advance years.
