Living in Belton, Texas does not sound sexy. It’s definitely not as sexy as living in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico or many of the other places that we hope to call home. However, Central Texas can be really beautiful and there are a ton of places to go hiking!
Finding a few of those places was one of our goals when we moved to Belton.
Here’s a quick video of our adventure through Colorado Bend State Park and Gorman Falls!
We googled “Waterfalls in Central Texas” and went to the place that had the best google images! That’s how we do things!
Only an hour and a half from Belton, Colorado State Bend State Park was the perfect distance away to make a day trip out of it!
If you’re coming from Austin, Dallas, or San Antonio we have included a map to give you an idea of where Colorado Bend State Bend is located in relation to you.
Though the park has many trails, we chose to do the Gorman Falls Trail as we really wanted to see a waterfall. At a length of 3 miles round trip, the Gorman Falls trail is perfect for all ages!
In fact, we almost felt as if the hike was too short to find such a beautiful spot! It was as if we wanted to have to work for it a little harder! However, the trail is very rocky and the final descent is steap and slippery. With that said, we saw many families with small children and many retiree aged couples hiking the trail with no problem.
You may even find a cool looking cactus, like this one:

or this one:
In all, this trail is of easy to moderate difficulty, with a destination that doesn’t dissapoint!
Having seen many waterfalls through Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii we can say that Gorman Falls is truly unique! Gorman Falls is fed from a natural spring and flows down more than 40 feet! It is truly stunning!
There isn’t much around the State Park. We suggest either going for the day or taking your camping gear and making the weekend of it!
Make sure you gas up in Lampasas, as you won’t have another chance once you get closer to the park.
Pack your lunch! Again, there isn’t anything around the park so don’t go hungry! When in doubt, carry some extra bars or sandwiches! After our hike we were starving; we demolished our food so fast!
If you are looking to get away from the busy city life and experience Texas at its wildest, Colorado State Bend State Park is a perfect destination for you and your family!
Keep it Kinetic,
Greg and Hillary
